Engineering and environmental fields have long been male dominated, but increasing diversity in these professions brings tremendous value. Individuals from different backgrounds contribute fresh ideas, new perspectives, creativity, and passion, which are all essential for solving today’s complex challenges.

One powerful way to inspire future generations is through visibility. When we see role models who reflect our own experiences or aspirations, it can spark the thought: “If they can do it, maybe I can too.”

This blog series will spotlight inspiring women with backgrounds in engineering who are making meaningful impacts in environmental fields. Their stories reveal the many ways technical skill, purpose, and innovation come together to protect our planet and serve society. Along the way, they will also share advice and reflections on how they got to where they are today.

In honour of International Women’s Day, the first blog in this series will feature Tapashree Tah, an environmental professional working in the air sector. Her story exemplifies resilience and purpose‑driven pivots in environmental engineering, shaped by her experience as a first‑generation immigrant who repeatedly chose discomfort and growth over staying safe. Her story will be released on March 8, 2026, with new stories following every month.

The goal is to inspire girls and young women to explore how they can shape a sustainable future, while also encouraging anyone curious about engineering or environmental work to see the diverse opportunities that exist within these evolving fields.

Change begins when stories are shared. By highlighting the experiences of women in engineering and environmental fields, this series aims to celebrate progress, spark curiosity, and show what’s possible when diverse voices lead the way. Here’s to the innovators shaping a more sustainable and inclusive future!
